HealthCorps is a proactive health movement founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz. It is a national 501(c)3 health, education, and mentoring nonprofit organization running in 60 schools in 13 states and Washington, D.C. The HealthCorps curriculum focuses on mental resilience, nutrition, and fitness. Coordinators work in the classroom, the lunchroom, and in after school clubs to integrate these elements into a comprehensive health education. To learn more, visit www.healthcorps.org

Green Teamers is an after-school club formed in partnership between HealthCorps and Groundwork Anacostia River DC. It aims to expose students through the outdoors with education, recreation, and service learning. So far, our students have begun a recycling program, planted vegetables at the garden in the Arboretum Recreation Center, and visited the Washington Youth Garden multiple times.

Student Wellness Club meets every week to plan meaningful health events for the student body via healthy lunch booths, or a "Cafe-O-Yay." Past events have included free smoothies with recipes, health-o-ween with caramel apple slices, and tea samples with health benefits and all-natural sweeteners. Student Wellness Club members also ran a HealthCorps booth at a community health event on October 25th at the National Geographic Museum. There, they demonstrated the nutritional value of whole grains and passed out healthy whole grain snacks to hundreds of community members.

Cooking Club: Meets every Tuesday after school to practice basic cooking skills. Students learn how to make our favorite meals healthier, so that they can carry healthy habits with them to help them thrive through young adulthood and beyond.
