WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 1, 2008) – Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter High School, a leading charter school in the nation’s capital,. recently received a seal of approval from GreatSchools.net and Businessweek in the form of a “10” (out of 10) rating.

The top rating was based on District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC CAS) test during the 2007-2008 school year at WMST PCHS, compared to peer schools. WMST PCHS 10th graders registered a stunning 75 percent proficiency rate in 2007-2008 for Mathematics on DC CAS with 65 percent proficiency in Reading last school year. WMST PCHS’ performance on the DC CAS test during 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 allowed the school to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) both school years, a key provision of the No Child Left Behind Act.

“It’s an honor to be named a distinguished school by GreatSchools.net and Businessweek,” said Mark Holbrook, head of school at WMST PCHS. “GreatSchools.net has excellent search engine optimization, so when prospective parents, partners or funders search for our school on the Internet, they can easily find and read the reviews. There are more than 50 public charter schools operating in the District, and it can be difficult to separate the highly effective ones from the rest.”
